2025 Garden.
🥬 Growing Together , Giving Together. 🥬
At African Community Kalamazoo, our garden is more than rows of vegetables — it is a place where culture, health, and community come together. Many of us grew up in Africa where fresh food was a way of life, and planting squash, greens, and other vegetables here helps us reconnect with those roots. Every seed planted represents more than food — it represents tradition, resilience, and the joy of growing something that will nourish both our families and our neighbors.
Working in the garden is also a way we strengthen our bonds. Parents and children work side by side, elders share their wisdom about traditional farming, and everyone has a role to play in the process. What begins as simple planting turns into storytelling, teaching, and moments of laughter that remind us of home. Gardening has become a way for our community to stay active, reduce stress, and take pride in what we accomplish together.
Perhaps the most beautiful part of our garden is that the vegetables we grow are shared freely. We distribute our harvest to families in need, neighbors, and friends — making sure that fresh, healthy food is available to everyone, regardless of their situation. This spirit of generosity is at the heart of who we are. Our garden is not just about feeding bodies — it’s about feeding hope, unity, and love across our community.
