Our big garden 2025

At African Community Kalamazoo, our garden is more than just fresh vegetables — it’s a place where culture, community, and care come together. Families, elders, and children all pitch in to plant, water, and harvest, creating a space where traditions are shared and new friendships grow. Joshua Kibezi, our founder, often joins in, showing that leadership means serving alongside the community and inspiring everyone to get involved.

The harvest is always a joyful celebration, with the whole community coming together to share the fruits of their labor. Best of all, every vegetable we grow is distributed for free to those in need, spreading nourishment, hope, and the spirit of giving. Our garden is a living reminder of what we can achieve when we grow and give as one.

2025 Garden.

At African Community Kalamazoo, our garden is a place where love and culture grow alongside our vegetables. Families work hand in hand, and elders joyfully share traditions and wisdom with the younger generation. Every harvest reminds us of our roots and the strength that comes from working together. The best part is being able to give these fresh vegetables away for free, ensuring that everyone in our community can enjoy healthy food. By growing and sharing, we are planting hope, unity, and a brighter future for all.

Distribution.

At our most recent food distribution event, we were honored to serve our community with essential staples such as Jasmine rice and cooking oil—basic necessities that many families struggle to afford. Thanks to the generosity of our donors and volunteers, we were able to organize and distribute dozens of large rice bags and gallons of oil to individuals and families in need. This effort reflects our mission to fight hunger and uplift vulnerable households with dignity and care. Every donation makes moments like this possible—and with your continued support, we can reach even more people.

Organization Show up.

Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to represent African Community Kalamazoo at a community event that welcomed thousands of people, and I was proud to share that experience with my two sons by my side. Together, we showcased the richness of our African heritage through vibrant fabrics, meaningful displays, and our presence as a family rooted in culture and purpose. While my sons didn’t speak, their involvement was powerful—they stood with pride, helped represent who we are, and showed what it means to carry culture forward through generations. It was a beautiful and meaningful day, and I’m thankful we had the chance to share a part of ourselves with so many.
